The trailer for Sardar 2 has arrived, bringing Karthi back to the franchise in dual roles and setting up SJ Suryah as a new adversary ahead of the film’s September 10 theatrical release.
Released on September 1, the trailer expands the scale of P.S. Mithran’s 2022 spy thriller Sardar. Karthi returns as agent Chandra Bose, known as Sardar, and inspector Vijay Prakash, while the new footage places the sequel’s central conflict across international locations, including Japan.
SJ Suryah joins the franchise as Black Dagger, the figure positioned against Karthi’s characters in the trailer’s main confrontation. Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu, Achyuth Kumar and Balaji Sakthivel also feature in the ensemble.
The trailer rollout became a visible Tamil-cinema conversation on September 1, drawing immediate reactions around the Sardar–Black Dagger clash and the film’s larger espionage canvas. Coverage of the launch consistently identifies the trailer—not unverified casting speculation or box-office forecasts—as the current development.
At the film’s trailer-launch event, Suriya spoke about Karthi’s approach to acting and recalled being struck by his brother’s transformation for Paruthiveeran. That appearance added a family-star dimension to an event otherwise centred on the sequel’s new footage and release push.
Sardar 2 is directed by P.S. Mithran and produced by S. Lakshman Kumar and Ishan Saksena. Its September 10 date places it in a busy Tamil release period, but the campaign is clearly selling a continuation of the original film’s spy universe rather than a standalone action spectacle.
The new trailer ends the wait for a fuller look at the sequel’s story world, with Karthi’s two characters and SJ Suryah’s Black Dagger now established as its main dramatic axis.
